Bridget James (b. 1985, Chicago, IL) is a multidisciplinary artist who uses painting to explore past cultural images and artifacts. Inspired by vintage textiles, images, techniques and qualities of craft art, James incorporates it all into her own work. Her ongoing interest in the dichotomy of the American dream, seen through WWE wrestlers - with its roots in masculinity stereotypes and homoerotic exoticization - weaves itself into the tapestry of her fabric works. James earned her BFA from Pace University, NYC. She started her formal art practice after moving into SRU studios, an artist-run community studio building in the South Central neighborhood of Los Angeles. SRU helped her develop her art practice by providing a space and community that encouraged and promoted the possibility of a sustainable life as an artist. She now helps manage the new studio building in Pico Union.
